A panel discussion led by Richard Dietsch, Sports Illustrated writer and editor, will be held with three retired Jewish major league players: Ron Blomberg, Art Shamsky and Elliot Maddox. The players will discuss their experiences of being Jewish and playing in the major league. Following the panel, there will be time for autographs, as well as a host of fan fest games like Speed Pitch, Virtual Baseball, Photo Magazine Covers, Bounce House and more. A Ballpark style dinner will be served. There will also be a sports memorabilia dealer on hand with items for sale, as well as a collection of Sandy Kofax memorabilia for viewing.

This event is co-sponsored by Bi-Cultural Day School, Fairfield County Connecticut Jewish Baseball League, Solomon Schechter of Westchester , Temple Sholom and Westchester Fairfield Hebrew Academy.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for children (12 and under).

Take a Tromp Through the Swamp and a Break by the Lake with Tom Sieling. Tom returns to Greenwich Library following last summer’s wonderful show. His performances are VERY participatory, fun, lively and informative. Sieling writes and performs songs for children and adults and he accompanies himself on guitar, banjo, harmonica and a drum machine and all songs include parts for the whole family. The program is free and open to all ages. No tickets required. Doors open at 6:45 pm on Tuesday July 27th in the Cole Auditorium.

Enjoy an afternoon at Audubon Greenwich this Saturday when the local beekeepers harvest honey and the Audubon screens two ground-breaking films that investigate answers to what is causing the colony collapse disorder (CCD) in honeybee colonies. Below are all the details about the day of events and be sure to not miss these films. Note: RSVPs for the films are required – the space is limited!

Honey Harvesting: With the Backyard Beekeepers Association
11:00 am – 4:00 pm
Visitors are invited to stop by to see how the honey is taken out of the hive and bottled. Help “spin” the honey from the wax combs. Honey may also be available for purchase (while supplies last). All ages. No charge. No RSVP required. Downhill in the red barn. Sponsored and staffed by the Backyard Beekeepers Association.

The entertainment will begin at 7:00 pm with a children’s Dance Party featuring D.J. Rick Rock. After the concert at approximately 8:15 pm The Department of Parks and Rec will show the movie Antz on a large 9’ x 12’ screen. Come early, bring a picnic dinner (no barbecues please), a blanket, Frisbee, wiffleball and bat, and enjoy a movie under the stars.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t post about the sales event around which I plan my whole summer; The Greenwich Avenue Sidewalk Sales. Over the years, I’ve scored $200 dresses for $9.99, purchased expensive kids clothes for pennies on the dollar, collected a years worth of birthday party gifts in one fell swoop, and have even allowed myself a splurge or two all in the name of GREAT BARGAINS.
